Definition

Prestitial ads with countdown force users to wait until an interaction is allowed.

Meaning explained

Prestitial ads that use countdown feature appear on a screen before any content of a page is loaded. A user has to wait a certain amount of time until countdown enables ad dismissal or ad finishes its play, only after that the desired page is loaded into display. Countdown time may vary depending on a publisher.

The difference between prestitial ads without countdown and with countdown is only minor. Ads with countdown force users to watch through usually a video ad. Ads without countdown might be closed much sooner.

Other ad formats that are deemed by Better Ads Standards are listed in Ad experiences list. The purpose of the compiled list and its information is to reduce user’s need to use adblock software.
