Definition

Flashing animated ads are a format disrupting user’s browser experience.

Meaning explained

Flashing animated ads is an ad format which delivers distracting ads with rapidly changing colours, backgrounds, and other visual features. Many publishers preferred animated ads due to its eye-catching nature, which led to its overuse resulting in visitors’ frustration.

According to different sources, not all animated ads are banned. For example Chrome browser supposedly allows animated ads to display provided that the ad is not rapidly flashing and changing colours.

Other ad formats that are deemed by Better Ads Standards are listed in Ad experiences list. The purpose of the compiled list and its information is to reduce user’s need to use adblock software.
